Social Stories to Support Learners

Sweet Meet – Discussion Task 6

Social stories serve as a valuable tool in our Student Advisory Program, helping students navigate complex social situations and encouraging positive behaviour. These narratives, tailored to specific challenges or skills, can significantly influence how students perceive and react to various scenarios. By sharing stories that address common behavioural issues or enhance social skills, we can create a supportive environment that fosters growth.

Social stories serve several key purposes in a Student Advisory Program (SAP):

  1. Clarify Social Situations
  2. Promote Positive Behaviour
  3. Reduce Anxiety
  4. Enhance Social Skills
  5. Support Individual Needs

Task: Reflect on and discuss the social stories you have used with students to help them in the Student Advisory Program (SAP) or their behaviour in general. How have these stories influenced their behaviour and social skills?

Artifacts: To enhance the group discussion, please prepare narratives or create a visual organizer to share examples of social stories you’ve used and how they have positively impacted your students. These artifacts will help illustrate your approach, provide context for your experiences, and inspire others in developing effective social stories.
